If you've searched for help in Auckland, you've probably seen both "career coaching" and "job coaching". They sound the same, but they solve different problems. Here's how to tell which one you need.
Job coaching: getting the next role
Job coaching is practical and short term. You already know the kind of role you want. You need help getting it.
A CV that shows results, not duties
Interview practice, including panel interviews
Your LinkedIn profile and how you approach people
Negotiating the offer
It usually takes one to three sessions, often timed around a real application or interview.
Career coaching: working out the direction
Career coaching is about the bigger picture. It suits you if you feel stuck, you're thinking about a change, or you're not sure what "next" even looks like.
What you want more of, and less of
Which of your skills travel to other roles or industries
Whether to stay, step up or move on
A plan you can actually start this month
Which one do you need?
Ask yourself one question: do I know what I'm aiming for? If yes, start with job coaching. If not, start with career coaching. Many people need a bit of both, and a good coach will move between them as you go.
My focus is marketing, tech and creative people, and I also coach professionals from other fields, including senior clinicians, engineers and lawyers. Interviews, CVs and career decisions work the same way whatever your industry.
